Does the Myspace Salute Really Work?

Myspace Salute - Does it Work? Yes, without a doubt -- the Myspace Salute process really works. Sometimes.

I'll be the first to agree that Myspace has cooked up a really strange way to do password retrievals. Most other sites ask you to set up one or more security questions with answers that you can supply if you need to reset or retrieve your password. For example, if can supply your mother's maiden name, favorite childhood superhero, and the name of your pet armadillo, you pass the test and will regain access to the account. The process is automated and it works great.

Not so with Myspace... they require you to send a "Salute" which is a photo of yourself holding a handwritten sign with the word "MySpace.com" and your FriendID on it. You then have to upload that photo to a non-public website, and contact Myspace via a special web form. (See Forgot Myspace Password for details.)

This requires real humans to get involved in the process, and the results seem to vary widely. Because there are tens of millions of Myspace users, the number of password retrieval requests must be staggering. My guess is that they just don't have the manpower to process them all, so the bulk of these Salutes are simply discarded.

But I have heard from several people that the SALUTE PROCESS DOES WORK for some people who are either lucky or persistent. I have recommended that people resubmit the Salute once a week or so, until they get a positive response. Many get no reply at all, but some users have reported that Myspace did reply to them with a message like this: "If you are receiving this request again, the salute you sent was unclear or did not fit our requirements. Please resend another salute."

Others have written to verify that the Salute process really did work for them. Here are some examples of the feedback I've received from Myspacers who sent a Salute and did in fact regain access to their accounts:

  • "Thank you so much. I didn't have my password for the longest time, I did this and it worked! I couldn't believe it. Thanks again."
  • "After 3 weeks of not having my password the salute actually worked for me... The key is to be persistent."
  • "I recently had to do this (salute) and IT WORKED. It took a bit - but duh - myspace is huge."
  • "Thank you soo much! I finally got to see my girlfriend's new pics after 2 weeks. I'd like to send you a billion dollars but i'm kinda poor. This really does work, people!"
  • "Yes, the SALUTE does work. I had to wait over a week, but it did work. Yay!"

So there you have it... I'm not making it up! The Myspace Salute really does work. It might take a day, a week, or a month, but if you keep trying, your chances for success will improve.

It also says on the salute page you can simply send them the photo OR a link to where it is at. You dont HAVE TO upload it to a pic site that host! JUST send it directly to them!!!

Someone has stolen my 16 year old daughters email address, password and also changed her myspace to include very vulgar remarks. Is there a quick way to find out what the email address has been changed to and if so, how do we retrive the password? We are in the process of trying to do the salute thing to have myspace deleted before anymore of our family member see this trash, but I am afraid that it will take forever and I don't know how to set up a web address to send picture. Someone please help!

EDITOR'S NOTE: Unfortunately, the Salute process is the only avenue that Myspace has provided for cases like this.

Yeah well I did this about oh well 13 times. I sent them a URL to my salute picture, I attached it to the email I also made sure my face was clearly seen. And they never have gotten back to me. They are stupid, their technical support team is SLOW. They sent me 6 emails of the same stupid thing.

Bing! Now, let's see... scolling down to the Hamiltons... Okay, I found "Nina". Your password is "fuzzy69slippers". You're welcome!

I have to say it worked for me after one day. I had a MySpace page from 2006, which I forgot about, later making a new account. I then wanted to delete this old account as it held oe info and photos on there that I no longer wanted online. The trouble is, it would not take my email address, and I tried very single email address I owned from around that time, but to no avail. I simply couldn't log in.

I may have used my university email account, in which case this would be impossible to retrieve, having left uni 3 years ago.

However, after explaining this to Myspace and attaching my salute (I took two pictures, just to be on the safe side), I had an email a day later saying that my profile has now been remoed. Ta-dah - it's gone.

So yes, the salute does work!

This does NOT work! I would love to find out where you got that feedback from, because everyone i have found who has sent a salute has told me it did not work. It's been over a month, and i've been sending out a salute every other day. It's gotten me NOWHERE.):
