Myspace Salute

Category: Myspace

"I read on your site that I can retrieve my Myspace password by sending a salute. It sounds crazy... does it really work?"

Does the Myspace Salute Really Work?

Myspace Salute - Does it Work? Yes, without a doubt -- the Myspace Salute process really works. Sometimes.

I'll be the first to agree that Myspace has cooked up a really strange way to do password retrievals. Most other sites ask you to set up one or more security questions with answers that you can supply if you need to reset or retrieve your password. For example, if can supply your mother's maiden name, favorite childhood superhero, and the name of your pet armadillo, you pass the test and will regain access to the account. The process is automated and it works great.

Not so with Myspace... they require you to send a "Salute" which is a photo of yourself holding a handwritten sign with the word "MySpace.com" and your FriendID on it. You then have to upload that photo to a non-public website, and contact Myspace via a special web form. (See Forgot Myspace Password for details.)

This requires real humans to get involved in the process, and the results seem to vary widely. Because there are tens of millions of Myspace users, the number of password retrieval requests must be staggering. My guess is that they just don't have the manpower to process them all, so the bulk of these Salutes are simply discarded.

But I have heard from several people that the SALUTE PROCESS DOES WORK for some people who are either lucky or persistent. I have recommended that people resubmit the Salute once a week or so, until they get a positive response. Many get no reply at all, but some users have reported that Myspace did reply to them with a message like this: "If you are receiving this request again, the salute you sent was unclear or did not fit our requirements. Please resend another salute."

Others have written to verify that the Salute process really did work for them. Here are some examples of the feedback I've received from Myspacers who sent a Salute and did in fact regain access to their accounts:

  • "Thank you so much. I didn't have my password for the longest time, I did this and it worked! I couldn't believe it. Thanks again."
  • "After 3 weeks of not having my password the salute actually worked for me... The key is to be persistent."
  • "I recently had to do this (salute) and IT WORKED. It took a bit - but duh - myspace is huge."
  • "Thank you soo much! I finally got to see my girlfriend's new pics after 2 weeks. I'd like to send you a billion dollars but i'm kinda poor. This really does work, people!"
  • "Yes, the SALUTE does work. I had to wait over a week, but it did work. Yay!"

So there you have it... I'm not making it up! The Myspace Salute really does work. It might take a day, a week, or a month, but if you keep trying, your chances for success will improve.

I am trying to post a myspace salute but cannot find a non-public place to post it. I tried geocities as you suggested in one of your articles but that is open to the public-all images geocities notes are open to the public. I also tried imageshack and that is also open to the public. Please help. Thanks.

EDITOR'S NOTE: GeoCities will be fine.

will it be ok to use photobucket for the image upload, so long as you set your profile, albums and pictures to private, so that none of them are viewable to the public?

EDITOR'S NOTE: That sounds like a good plan.

I have tried the SALUTE thing repeatedly and to no avail. I don't know what else to try. I really need to get into my page as I was working with a family on a missing person case and am now working on another one. I really need to get into please there must be some other way to get my password. At this point I'm not even sure what email address I used or what name. It is easily found under my name in search aspect of myspace but still no one has ever contacted me about it, via email or otherwise. I NEED HELP! Please.

EDITOR'S NOTE: I'm sorry... that's the only method that Myspace makes available.

Someone has hacked my myspace and changed my password. I have no clue what they changed it to! And ontop of that, my myspace email is fake, so i have no way to retrieve it. Is there any other possible way besides a salute that i can get my password back on my REAL email?

EDITOR'S NOTE: You can ask the person who changed your password to pretty please change it back. Or you can do the salute.

MySpace is retarded for making people go through this process. It costs them money in terms of manpower and cost users time and frustration. What a garbage site. By the way, I've tried it SEVERAL times over 2 years and still have not received my password. I've since switched to Facebook.

i have been trying the salute for 2 months to no avail. i have sent numerous salutes and they keep asking me to do more things in the pictures... first its hold the friend id and a pic of your face. then hold the id and 3 fingers up in the air, then stand and hold the sign at your waist, then with your hand on your heart... thats crazy. i think i wont ever get my account back other than spending money to have it hacked.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Are you serious? I'd like to see those emails from Myspace asking you to do those crazy things... If they are real, I want to publicize this nonsense.
