I got Windows 10 on the 29th. It takes 2 minutes to boot. Not impressed. Also, I haven't really noticed any great improvement in speed anywhere. |

Good article but it doesn't cover the case where the Media Creation Tool (downloaded from the site you quoted) simply doesn't work at all. I tried all of the options (in place update, download ISO to create DVD and USB) on several PC's running Win 7 and it failed on all of them with the very helpful message "Something happened". I am in the insider program and this has been reported by many people. So while I like Win 10 my only PC at the moment that is running it is the one that I used for the insider program. |

Hello Mr. Rankin! A question for you, or any of your knowledgeable readers.I have a Windows 7 laptop not-too-dissimilar to the one you used in your experiment. It works pretty well, but a while back I installed a "driver update" program that resulted in one of my Bluetooth devices not being able to connect. (It does connect to my tablet, and did to my desktop...at least before the hard drive waved its last.) (The desktop is another "work in progress".) My question: will installing Windows 10 give me a full set of NEW drivers, or will it in some way just re-use the existing Windows 7 drivers? Should I do the Recovery process on the laptop beforehand, or install Windows 10 as-is? Any input would be greatly appreciated! |

Wish I had your article before I updated 3 of the 5 computers I have here! .... It would have answered all the question I had going in! You're right on! However, if you want to generate a "guest" account, be aware that Win 10 doesn't have one!!! There are a couple "work arounds," but methinks that Microsoft will suffer some grief from that omission.... and, If upgrading from Win 7 and don't like using a password to login, Win 10 (like Win 8.1) almost forces you to use one if you want to easily access your Microsoft and "OneDrive" account. |

I have a machine with Win Vista that I essentially junked because the OS is such a dog. If Microsoft really wanted to stroke its PR with a free Win10 upgrade, they should offer it to Vista victims. |

I find it hard to get enthusiastic about Windows 10 until I know whether the program is compatible with office 2003, Maximizer CRM version 12 and Corel Draw version 15. Windows 8 came with my ASUS Ultralight purchase. What a useless combination because the Ultralight does not the operating systems touch screen function. However I was informed to fork out another $1,000 for program upgrades because Windows 8 does not support the old version. And I thought only the government diddles us out of out hard earned cash. |

I read very attentively Microsoft’s publications that advertised Windows-10. Let us assume that the transition is fast and smooth, which obviously is not the case for many users. Still, I could not find in Microsoft’s publications even one feature of the new OS that could persuade me to switch from Windows-7 to Windows-10. The support for Windows-7 ends in 2020. I will switch to Windows-XX some time before that date. |

Thanks Bob, My 8.1 PC went without a hitch. I updated via the creation tool and was quite pleased with the result. I even updated my wife's Windows 7 PC I had built her several years ago. It has a quad core AMD Athlon II. All went well on both systems without issue. I'm now a Windows 10 fan! I am reading some interesting writing on Windows 10 and the data that Microsoft is now collecting with Cortana and other programs. Anything we should be concerned about? |

You had the beta for a while and now have the real thing. At my house, the Win8.1 PC has upgraded already and the Win7Pro is still waiting. I asked this question before, but never saw a reply. Will I still need aftermarket sofreare such as anti-maleware, anti-virus, fire wall, etc., etc.? Or, has Microsoft FINALLY caught on and given us a truly SAFE, protected package? I ask because I'm receiving renewal notices from all my security providers and if I don't need them, then I'm not going to renew. |

I upgraded to Windows 10 four days ago. I haven't been able to activate it. I didn't see any "skip activation" option. I've tried entering my Windows 7 product key to no avail. Microsoft Support advised me to wait 24 hours from installation, and my Windows 10 would become activated. As stated, it's been four days and still no activation. Should I recover Windows 7 and try again? Or will I even be able to upgrade again for free? |

BOB, This should prove successful, It worked for me. I am running win7 and I partitioned my HDD and installed win7 again on the new partition. YES, the same win7 OS as the first partition. One license, 2 partitions, same OS. The second partition OS will boot first unless you select the second one when prompted at the selection screen. That means when you start your computer you will need to stay and pay attention to the screens so the OS you want boots, you will have 30 seconds to select or not select other OS's that are installed and then press ENTER. The LAST OS installed will always boot first. As I stated a new(second copy) and updated win7 was installed and this OS boots first. I followed your instructions for the flash copy and let it install on the default partition. That means no interaction was required while win10 installed on the second win7 partition. I now have win10 and my original win7 on my computer. The win10 is a fresh install, so I need to learn HOW to move my bookmarks and other stuff to become familiar with win10. |

I have an assortment of computers in my home office. The oldest one is a Dell 15" laptop (9 years old) that I upgraded last year with an SSD drive and Windows 8.1. |

Many problems noted with Windows 10 including sharing users bandwidth!! I am staying with Windows 7. MS is abusing its monopoly position. Windows 10's default privacy settings and controls leave much to be desired http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/211208-windows-10s-default-privacy-settings-and-controls-leave-much-to-be-desired While the Windows 8 custom install options only asked to send location data to Microsoft. Windows 10 notes that location data |

Got both the usb and dvd 64 bit. USB was no problem, thought it took some time. Take a pee, put on the coffee pot, and follow the bouncing ball. Didn't try the dvd disc, yet. Boot could be a tad faster, but once up and running, the speeds are just great. Email is fine. I think Microsoft has it right, this time. Edge browser is fine. No need to click back to the future to win 8.1 or 7, thought both are possible. Hang with 10, you won't regret it. There will be updates, for sure, but 10 is a real 10. |
