What's New in Windows 11? - Comments Page 1

Hi, Bob. When Microsoft issues new a new op sys that won't even work on the computers people are running, don't you think they have an obligation to keep supporting older versions of their op sys? They should still support Win 7, in my opinion. |

You can use this link to get the PC Health Check App. It also includes a button that initiates a check on Win 11 compatibility. https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows/windows-11#pchealthcheck |

Broken record time, but the end of Win 10 support will provide yet another opportunity for people to switch their perfectly good computers to Linux. I'll continue to run one Win box and at least one Mac, but Linux remains the better alternative for most users. In my opinion, of course. |

It seems that windows 11 does not deal with the real problem, the vicious "update" malware that thoroughly trashes the interface and disables useful non-Microsoft software. I'm now using Linux but some tasks work better in the windows environment. I have a Win 7 computer that I use for these tasks but I don't dare put it on the internet for fear of it being trashed so file transfer is a hassle. I hope Microsoft someday comes up with version with an optional no-touchscreen interface and total user control of updates. |

Four working computers. (Not even counting the Chromebook, tablets, or computers needing a fix.) HP laptop, ASUS laptop, HP desktop, Dell desktop. None new, but the newest only three years old. Ran newer version of Health Check. Four times: NO! Processor not supported, secure boot not enabled, and one that didn't even give an exact reason. All are dual boot Windows 10/Linux. Guess which OS is getting priority from now on. |

Windows 10, the last Windows version. |

All I will say is, I am very happy that I left Windows and MS Office behind a few years ago, and work exclusively with Linux - both at work (RedHat.com - Red Hat Enterprise Linux) and at home (Linux Mint). |

If Microsquish does stop supporting Win 10, any lawyers out there know if a class action lawsuit could be successful? |

I see that Microsoft has pulled the PC Health Check app as it was not living up to hopes and wishes. |

You know, I can't afford the 'toy' car I'd like to have, and I can't afford the boat I'd like to have, and if you annualized the greens & cart fees I'm not paying, I couldn't afford those, either. I don't drink or smoke for health reasons, but that's a good thing because that's something else I probably can't afford. But you know what I can afford? A new computer every 4-5 years, that's what! I don't agonize over it, or hate Microsoft for advancing technology (and leaving behind old technology). It's like a great birthday present that I buy for myself (and who knows better what I want for a birthday present than me?). Then I set aside a couple of days just to play with it, move files, customize the settings, and 'get acquainted' with my new little friend. Getting a new computer is one of life's pleasures (in my opinion) and I really look forward to it every 4-5 years. If it just happens to come with a new OS, so much the better. |

What's new? They probably installed more spyware that you can't disable. |

I found this a little confusing.I could not figure out what to click on to test if my computer is compatible. |

When Win 11 comes along and MS realizes only a handful of people can use it I hope they'll stick with Win 10. What about the ATMs and other gear running Win 10 when it's switched off, Oh are they still running XP? Extra cost for the NHS if they need to upgrade - good for business though, eh? |

My 6 year old Dell XP8700 with a 2 TB hard drive and a separate 1 TB hard drive and 16 MB Ram also failed the windows 11 compatible test. No information as to why that should be and when I spoke to Dell the said windows 11 hasn't been released yet and we know nothing about it. Thanks Bob for the helpful information you provided. Joe. |

I had to laugh when you mentioned the "Borg". I am 82 years old and am hooked on Star trek Voyager. |

Microsoft should burn in hell. Oh, wait. With global warming, maybe they can do it here. I have an old laptop with XP on it. XP will play the old games that I like. 10 won't. Maybe a class action victory would force MS to buy a computer with W11 installed for everyone who has W10 now. It's not that they would ever consider being responsible for the consequences their decisions bring upon users of their products. Perhaps they could rent, on an annual, pre-paid basis, freedom from lawsuits brought by all those using their products. Thank you for providing a forum for my Microsoft Rant-of-the-Day. |

The old good / bad / good / bad Microsoft OS cycle continues! (Every other MS OS release sucks.) I'm more annoyed that support for Windows 10 goes away on Oct 14, 2025 - that's the official Microsoft end-of-life date. Their OS market share continues to drop, that date will cause it to go off a cliff. |

Bob, it looks like I will be assimilating to the Borg right along with you. #ResistanceIsFutile! |

Thank you for another informative article. I am glad that I have a dual boot into Linux and Windows 10 on my desktop. I'll wait, regarding Windows 11, which will probably contain more bloatware and spyware. I'll invoke the Vorlons from Babylon 5 to fight the Borg. :) |
