I have been very happy with the free version of MBAM which has been at the gates of my PC for many years. Catches viruses automatically and updates itself also regularity.

I have often looked at their web site to support them financially by buying a paid version. However, while I am prepared to pay a one-time fee for a utility such as MBAM, I resent the fact that they, together with every other small utility programmer, insist on a life time subscription fee.

Screw their greed. There are enough good quality free utilities out there for the mere price of looking for them.

And then you curse them out for daring to offer a paid version that costs $8.32 a year per PC. Computer programmers do have to eat, and pay rent, just like everyone else. Without the paid version, there would be no free MBAM that is enjoyed by tens of millions of users. Just a little perspective...

I recently purchased the Premium having used the free v1 for some time. The added features are well worth the investment. It is $30CDN for 3 PC's. The only trouble I encountered was that it doesn't necessarily install correctly if you don't use an admin account. Interestingly by that I mean in an admin account and not just via Run As Admin. I got prompt and good support by contacting them via their website and several email exchanges. I suggested that they include the reminder about needing an admin install in the setup just in case and this has been passed to their techies. The problem with the Standard Account install was that it didn't advance the time for the next scheduled scan. I uninstalled and reinstalled in an admin account and that fixed the problem.

I know that a lot of companies are employing the yearly subscription mode of PAYware. I have a big aversion to such yearly fee-based applications and software. Especially for programs that start out as FREEware and then strip some wanted features from them to get you hooked on the version that is PAYware. That business practice I can almost live with. For example, WinPatrol has a FREEware version that is quite adequate but I sprang the money for their "Plus" version only because BillP Studios WinPatrol FREE version is a commendable utility (IMHO). But had WinPatrolPlus had been a yearly subscription based utility, I would have big issues even using their FREE version. This yearly subscription business model is something I don't want to be part of, as it does set a precedent when some very competent FREEware are available, especially when it comes to A/V protection (as Peter Loppe mentions).

Bob, you mentioned that MBAB Premium is an annual
Subscription. I just update my Pro and is says the license it is still for lifetime.

It does seem that other than the free version of most of the malware detectors the price for the pro version is 20 USD a year, every year. One wonders whether anyone of thses companies will break ranks and lower their prices. I never realised that Malwarebytes Anti-spyware paid version could be used on up to three PCs. 8.32 USD a year seems more reasonable. I wonder how many users of anti-virus anti-spyware use the free version. A company that decided to lower its prices might sell considerably more software than they do at present. One sales model pitch could be to offer renewal subscriptions at a lower price. I used to use Malwarebytes but found that it stated that my free trial had run, I had not subscribed to a free trial so maybe I'll recheck to see whether I can install the free version.

I have the paid version on both of my computers (paid 2 times - one on each) and NEVER paid again This $8.32 is news to me. I even emailed them to see if the price was final with no yearly fees and they affirmed it.
I run an XP pro and w7 Ultimate with MSE, Malwarebytes Premium and Malwarebytes Antiexploit and haven't had any problems. Antiexploit even makes the MSE work better. I bought the disks from Malwarebytes Primium and there a few more programs included on them. If you go to Amazon or Newegg they sometimes have a sale on the MBAM Prim. All you have to do is put it on your "wish list" and when they have a deal on them you are notified by email.

Is this premium version OK to run along with other anit-virus software such as Kaspersky or McAfee or will there be any conflicts? I may have missed it in your article if you had already mentioned it.

I have installed/used the free MBAM several times, based on your recommendations, Bob, and while it seemed to work fine, it only remained free for a limited time (15 days if memory serves). It would continue to update the virus definitions a few times and then stop.

I finally stopped re-installing MBAM and switched to the free version of Avast, also based on your recommendations.
What's the deal with the "free version"?

i bought the pro version at very good price. 15.00 including delivery in newegg. but to get this offer you have to receive email from new egg. and is working beatiful. 15.00 for life time, is a good deal.

I tried to purchase MBAM Premium. I followed all the steps. "Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium" appears at the top of the order page. However, *after* processing my credit-card information, the MBAM folks have enrolled me in the MBAM **PRO** version. So now I've got to call their Customer Service. This does not leave me feeling much confidence in their company and their "enhanced" version.

I agree with RandiO WinPatrolPlus is an excellent program and you buy it, one time, like most products. The product is updated if you buy the pricier lifetime offering. I will not support a subscription model. You may or may not get new features after a year of use or your renewal supports cosmetic changes. No Thanks. I've used the free version of MBAM to supplement my anti-virus/firewall suite. It does not run all the time because I was under the impression that it could affect the effectiveness of anti-virus products if both are doing prevention at the same time. They can cancel each other out. Maybe MBAM Premium doesn't operate this way. I've found MBAM Free to be a very good product and ironically I was about to purchase the Pro version that is teased when MBAM Free runs and it is why this article piqued my interest. I won't now. Subscription models are a waste of money.

I had used MBAM Free for years with Windows XP and now on a newer computer had it along with Trend Micro Titanium installed on Windows 8. I had been getting messages on each MBAM scan of an infection, which I would have it remove, but it would be there at the next scan. Trend Micro never picked it up. I called Trend and they informed me it wasn't picked up because it was a PUP, not a virus. They manually removed it for me but also removed MBAM, saying that it interfered with the Trend Micro Titanium. You have always said that MBAM can run with other antivirus programs. Can it run with Trend Micro and since both Trend Micro and MBAM Premium are both "real time" protectors does that create any conflicts?

I've been a long-time user of MBAM Pro; the new and renamed Premium is an improvement (my only *sigh* is that the pop-up announcements that MBAM has blocked a potentially malicious website is a whole lot bigger and flashier - and more obtrusive - though they do go away quickly).

My only disappointment is that there's no provision for adding IP addresses and/or domains that you want the program to block. (I commented on your article about bit-torrent, and this would be a welcome additional feature for blocking suspected malicious torrent sites/domains).

I bought the premium version of MBAM for $15 off of ebay.I tried the free version first but it was only good for about 15 days. This was a disc and not a download. Installation was a snap even for me. There have been several instances where it caught a suspicious site before my avast security did if it would have found it all. No yearly renewal fees.No interference with my avast security.I have to give it a thumbs up

I had read some time back that Malwarebytes was letting some adware through because it wasn't considered harmful. I immediately stopped using Malwarebytes. I think I will stay with Superantispyware. Also I don't see any reason to pay for something when there are excellent alternatives.

What are they paying you to advertise for them? There are a number of free anti-virus software that work great. This isn't typical of your MO.

Bob: per your reply to me, above, "I'm certain that you installed the free trial of the Pro/Premium version". I had considered that, at some point in my journey, and made a point of going back and downloading and installing the non-Pro version. I went back to their site several times to be sure that there "seemed to be" a difference in the Pro and non-Pro version I was about to download.

Unless their site hides the Pro ver. as the non-Pro ver. I got the right one and ended up with the same situation (and the same install executable). I kept (via rename) the previous download so I could compare them (same file names and sizes).
Was not meant to be, for me at least. :o(

I had a problem with free mbam on the wife's pyooter. They followed up with me *religiously* to fix the problem. They were more concerned about it than I was!
Classy company. Program is great, as well.

I really feel that the fine folks at MBAM have been in the business for Quite some time and Never have I questioned their integrity!
They are one of a handful of techies who really care about their consumer base!

I appreciate what they have done and continue to do for those of us who at one time or another were unemployed or who had no income coming in and to provide the FREE version of this wonderful software to all of us (to protect our computer investment) was/is a True Act of Kindness on their part!

I immediately purchased the PRO version (back in the day) when I again became employed to show my gratitude and to help the Company to keep providing the FREE version of MBAM to those who could use this protection!

I say all of this to put folks in Check to be grateful that the MBAM folks can provide the FREE version and still provide for their own families (as stated earlier by Mr. Rankin).
