Bob,

I've been using MBAM for years based on your recommendation. But recently I've had trouble with the program in that it wouldn't install properly nor update or run.

Tried downloading it several different times and reinstalling. No luck in that each time I'd get the same several errors. I even uninstalled it with a deep uninstall feature using IObit Uninstall. Still couldn't get it to install.

So I did a search this morning for the errors I kept getting, and evidently there were others who were having the same problem. I found the following link in my Google search to the MBAM Web site that offered the solution that worked. You have to use "their deep uninstall program" to completely uninstall a previous version before the update can be installed.

All sounds good, Bob. I have been relying on Avast Free and common sense for some years, now, also a router firewall. For cleanups of other folks computers I use SuperAntiSpyware in addition to MBAM. I also run ccleaner first to
reduce the load on the scanners.

It is odd how the Anti Malware programs we relied on in the past have fallen out of favor.

Spybot S&D used to be my favorite, now it seems like it always scores poorly.

AdAware used to be the fall back and now it never even gets mentioned.

I have never paid for AV software or malware removal software.

A good anti malware or malware removal software is the best way to remove the malware problem or error from computer. This is a very good explanation for computer users...

I'm using Vipre Internet Security and wonder what the settings are for Deep Scan which lately hasn't found anything at all. I'm wondering whether I'm not setting things properly.

DO NOT forget: try bringing up the run dialog and type mrt.eve for Malware Removal Tool by Microsoft.
