hi there... i just had the problem of automatically restarting pc whenever i am downloading things from any website... why is it like that>???? so strange.. but if am not downloading any but just browsing, my pc works perfectly fine... am using mozilla by the way...

EDITOR'S NOTE: Does it happen every time, or just this once? It could be a download manager that's tripping you up.

Hi there... i just had the problem of automatically restarting pc whenever i am downloading things from any website... why is it like that? So strange.. but if am not downloading any but just browsing, my pc works perfectly fine... am using mozilla by the way... I dont have any download manager installed.

EDITOR'S NOTE:Sounds like a virus or spyware problem.

I would remove all non-essential sotware packages and run thorough anti-virus and anti-spyware scans. It could even be your anti-virus program fighting with the browser or download manager. Switching to a new anti-virus might help also. See http://www.askbobrankin.com/should_i_buy_antispyware_or_antivirus_software.html

Thank you so much for the information on this site. I had problems with computer restarting for months now. Fixing computers for over 15 years I was At wits end and I had determined I was to carry it to the shop.

One last chance, I decided to look for information on the net again! FINALLY, Answers. The startup and recovery information solved all my computer problems! THANKS! I wonder what all the computer guy at the shop would have told me was wrong with it??? LOL Right here at Christmas too!

For the past several months I have been trying to debug a reboot problem. It seems that any time I go to a website that uses adobe or shockwave it will reboot. No BSOD. I have unplugged everything and it still occurs. I have swapped out RAM, CPU and video card. After cleaning up as many unused drivers, etc, I finally reformatted the hard drive, thinking that maybe there was some software glitch that I couldn't see... but no, it STILL reboots. Any help?? Please?

EDITOR'S NOTE: To rule out some bizarre Internet Explorer issue, have you tried visiting those sites with Firefox? And when you say you refomatted, do you mean you wiped everything from the disk, then re-installed Windows?

Whenever i double click on a game my computer restarts...After i have found this site i have unchecked the automatic restart but if i want to play any game a blue screa appears...what should i do!?...please i need to play!!! :))

EDITOR'S NOTE: Any game? Or just one specific game? Again, it could be faulty memory (RAM). Games typically stress a computer beyond typical word processing and web surfing, so if you have a bad spot in RAM, the game could trigger a fault.

My computer keeps restarting itself. I bought a new power supply but that wasn't the problem. I don't know what's the problem since its working properly but after about 20 minutes it restarts. Can anyone please help? This happened after a storm failed the electricity and entered the UPS. Exactly when the electricity came again, the computer started to restart every 20 minutes. Can anyone help?

EDITOR'S NOTE: Does bypassing the UPS make the problem go away?

I have the same problem as Brendon. My computer stay on for 1-10 min and then restarts. This is a recent problem. Started about a week ago. I repleaced the mobo, powersupply, graphics and reinstalled windows 2000 sp4 with rev1 and rev2. It made no difference. I ran mem-test and that ran for 1hr 30 min with no problems...but the computer restarts about 1-10 mins of booting in windows. Everything work well until the reboot. and after the reboot....I have to physically reset it at times to get it working or it just hangs at a black screen. Any advice will be very helpful. Thank You.

My computer will restart when i open 3D things for example when i play games and when i open google earth. No minidump file created. I disable auto restart already. CPU no overheat. Why it still restart???? Recently i bought a new ram(512mb) and i pair it with another same type of ram(512mb).

EDITOR'S NOTE: Try removing the old RAM and run with just the new RAM.

I have been having the same problem with the computer restarting several times when I first turn it on, and then randomly (and increasingly) while it is running - usually while I'm using it. I tried un-checking the "automatically restart," and now I can't get it booted past the first screen that pops up on startup (and I don't see any particular error message to reveal the problem). my question: what now? how do I get it to boot up again?

EDITOR'S NOTE: Have you tried doing a System Restore to a point when things were better? Have you ruled out bad RAM?

Computer restarts, before entering Windows, and keeps restarting over and over. Machine started doing it so, I replaced one thing after another, PS, Mem, HD, Vid, with no luck. Tried eliminating CD-Rom completely, to no avail. Any help here would be great.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Sounds like the only thing left is the motherboard...

My computer restarts, but I have to say that my Windows XP Version is not legal. Maybe Microsoft has "planted" some kind of "malfunction" for this kind of versions through Windows Update? I reinstalled all and it worked fine until I downloaded the first patches, there all started again.

My problem is when i run games my computer restarts or should i say not restart, all the fans etc are still running but my audio/ monitor goes off and lights on keyboard dont respond , this doesnt happen at all on unreal-99 but but does happen on counterstrike or silkroad , sometimes i can play the games for a while or even hours without this problem or restart, its like its totally random if i get to play the game or not please help...

EDITOR'S NOTE: Sounds like bad RAM or overheating. Both can cause seemingly random problems.
