MagicJack Phone Service - Comments Page 10

FAX machines DO work on the MJ system. Been doing it through my all-in-one printers for years before MJ and for the last year since I switched to MJP. Using MJP is much more cost effective than burning 250 watts/h 24/7 for the MJ. Simply plug the MJ into any phone jack in the house and your old telephone wiring will work just like when you were with the phone company. You can also use any "wired" phone in any phone jack. There may be technical reasons why a particular FAX machine won't work in the system but FAXing certainly is possible with MJ and MJP. |

I have been using the magic jack plus for about 6 months. I was told by their costomer service that it was not reccomended for satallite internet service however that is the service I use and it seems to work well for me. The call forwarding feature however is not working at the current time. They say it will be back up but will not give a date. I paid an additional 100.00 for 5 years service which of course brings my cost down to 20.00 per year. For that price I can't really complain. |

MagicJack Plus works great, for the price. Been using it for over a year with not too many problems. |

My original Magic Jack was a n ightmare of restarts, replugs, on and on. I upgraded to the Plus and had about a year of good service, purchased an additional 5... and the blessed thing stopped working. Thanks for the phone number; I'll give it a try. But the thing to know is that MJ chat customer support is impenetrable and largely staffed by people who are polite but seem to have limited knowledge. It is frustrating. Today, after over 2 hours online being told to do the same things again and again, I had to give up. Just know that anyone can need tech support, and MJ's is horrendous. |

I bought a used magicJack from a co-worker. I have been unable to get through to anyone at magicJack to convert set up the device as mine. Anyway when I plugged it into my computer it ran through a setup and started. However, whether I plug it into my computer or the wall it typically will not work properly. Most of the time it will not allow those I am calling to hear me. At times I cannot hear the caller or they will just get a message that I am not accepting calls. Has anyone else purchased a magicJack used and set it up successfully? |

I bought magic jack and paid for 5 years of service. A little after 3 years, they shut off my prepaid service. Ask me if I intend on doing business with them again. |

To Terri - 21 Apr 2013, It sounds like you have a conflict with your previous telephone service provider. If you are using your home telephone wiring you must call your previous service provider and specifically ask them to disconnect your service even if you already talked to them about closing your account. This applies to a land line or VOIP provider. Until this happens you may experience one way service such as you describe. |

Eyob... MJ has NO telephone support only Live Chat. Go to www.magicjack.com, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "customer service/live chat". Good luck, their support is definitely not the best but stick with it until they solve your issue. |

There have been a number of notes regarding support at magicjack which, in my opinion, is bad at best and nonexistent at worst. There are three ways to contact them about technical issues and billing. 1. For billing only: 561-594-9925. These people will not help with technical issues. 2. For tech support and billing: www.magicjack.com/techtalk (Live Chat) or 3. email: connect2magicjack@magicjack.com. |

I have several issues with MJ.

Three years ago, I moved to a granny unit that did not have a phone land line hooked up. My landlords have a cable from their house to my unit as the wifi also wouldn't work. I first tried Skype, but that wouldn't work, either. I got the basic Magic Jack. It works pretty well. I'd give it a 7 on a scale of 10. Sometimes it drops a call, but cell phones do that too. For $30 a year (price has gone up), I can't complain. Cons are: If you are on a long call, it drops the call after about 1.5 hours of talking, and you cannot call the person back right away. They can call you. There is no advance warning, however once I figured it out, I learned to pay attention to the timer on the MJ page on my computer screen. I have only a couple of friends with whom I have an occasional long conversation, and they can call me right back when the call drops. There is no warning your service time is coming to the end at the end of a year. You are not billed in advance - no email alerting you that your time is up. Your service just won't work until you pay up. KEEP YOUR PASSWORD! You'll need it to get online and renew. Even after paying, you also don't get emailed a receipt of payment. I can only use the phone, and have learned not to try to surf the net while on the phone. Voice quality quickly becomes garbled. One thing at a time with MJ. I prepaid $10 for international, but could never get that to work, and I wasn't informed it was only good for 6 months. It did not carry forward on my account when I renewed, and I did not purchase more international time. Buy one year at a time, manage your calendar so you'll remind yourself when your year is ending, and self renew. You can NOT set up an account with Craigslist - they need to verify you first, and they do NOT accept VoiP services for verification. So, if you want to place an ad on CL to sell something, for instance, you can't without being verified. They'll accept a cell and land line, but not MJ. I'm a senior on very limited budget. For home use only, it's ok. I miss the reliability of a land line, and the phone quality, but that's not an option where I live. Plus, cells don't work here either, so this is all I have available. For $30 a year, I really can't complain. You just learn how to work around these glitches. I do need to fax from time to time, but I just go into town instead and it's not that big a deal. Sometimes, the phone doesn't even ring when someone calls, but it does go into voice mail - which is an email sent to you that you listen to online. That isn't instant, either, but usually comes through pretty quickly. While your MJ online will build up a list of your calls and contact numbers, play it safe and keep a hard copy of important numbers. Don't rely on MJ...especially if you miss your end of service date and don't renew before - I've lost my contacts when I've renewed after that anniversary. Most of the time, it works fine for me. I wouldn't rely on it for running a business, however. Voice quality sometimes is iffy, but not often. For the most part, it's a bargain for home use. When power was out at my home, I took a laptop to the library, plugged in, took my MJ and phone, plugged in and was able to make calls from there and Starbucks! I may have really looked dorky, but it worked. I don't like cell phones and don't hear well with them - so this is my solution. I did have to find a quiet corner away from everyone, however. Hope this is some help. |

I really wonder how one can say good-bye to the phone company and never get another phone bill as Magic Jack claims. They say that as long as the device can get some sort of high-speed Internet connection - wired, wifi or a cellular 4G signal - it will work. Okay probably so.And how do I get my high-speed internet? To get wired and/or wireless DSL service I need a phone line coming into my home and a DSL modem. If I say goodby phone company I also have to say good-bye to my ISP then there goes my internet connection and with it my magic jack as well. Plus if I use my cell phone provider's 4G signal then I am scooping up data charges for all my phone calls and still paying money to a phone company called my cellular provider. Not exactly good-bye phone company at all I think. |

is there an equivalent product in Australia? If so, how do I eliminate my land-line which I am currently using for my modem/router for my internet? |

The whole idea of VOIP (voice over internet protocol) services such as Magic Jack, Vonage and Ooma, just to name a few of many, is to be able to eliminate the expense of the land line. If, as you state, you use a land line for your internet access then, in my opinon, VOIP is useless for you. VOIP was developed for use with high speed cable or fiberoptic internet service. I understand that some folks are using it with their wireless 4GL service here in the US but I can't verify that. All I know for sure is that my land line expenses have gone from $50US/month to $50US/year with my MJ Plus and while the quality is not perfect it is acceptable for us. |

I have two MJ - One 'original flavor', one MJ+. I've using the original for about 4 years. I take it with me when I travel. The MJ+ works great - but, I'm puzzled why I have to pay every year for the ported phone number. |
