Have been calling the USA and Canada when traveling abroad for free. Everyone I call recognizes my number ID so it works on the receiving end as well. Sometimes you get a funny connection, redial and it's like brand new. Best investment I've made for long distance calling from abroad.

I have had mine for over 2 years and used it on a 1Gz computer. Only problem is when you are surfing and talking at the same time; then you get stuttering. I simply stop surfing and talk with no problems. And if you talk too long you may have your connection dropped, which has happened a few times. You have to talk a long time on it for this to happen. Saves a heck of a lot on phone bills and if you sign up for 2 or 3 years you save even more on the $19.95 per year.

I am not a phone person. I'm 62 years old and I like talking on a land line. I hear better and clearer than on a cell. Magic jack is great, next month will be three years. When I talk to a doctor or an insurance, phone, cable, or government agency I'm on Magic Jack. works great/no problems

Very satisfied with the MJ. I've purchased at least five and distributed them to family overseas and it has saved huge amounts on those monthly bills!

I have used magic jack for about 3 years now. I love it.
If magic jack does not pop up when i turn on PC, i just unplug it from 2.0 port and plug it back in. No biggie..and with only paying 19.95 a year, no complaints at all if i have to get up to unplug and replug. I got a few friends to get one and they love the magic jack and saving money.
I used MJ on Win XP and the new PC i have now with WIN 7 and it works just great.

I have a problem when I moved. I lost my magic jack. If I buy another Magic jack device, how can I get the same phone number I had before?

Was unable to get Magic Jack to work on any of my 3 computers. Spent over three HOURS on phone with them. Kept getting transferred to 'more experienced person'. Never got a dial tone using the Magic Jack. Problem may be I have AT&T internet and phone in Florida. Recommend NOT buying retail unless they agree to take it back if it does not work for you.

Have used MajicJack for a few years. No hassle, very good functional device. I use it in a work environment, where I have a computer on all the time. Hence have not tried MJ Plus yet, but I am sure it will work as well as the ordinary MJ. Much simpler device to use than some other comparable gadgets !

I have had Magic Jack for almost 4 years and I have really tried to like it. I have Verizon 3g air card and I am not sure that I have enough bandwidth to use Magic Jack consistently. However, before I purchased the Verizon air card I read that I could use Magic Jack with it. Is there something I need to know or do to improve my use ability?

4 years and counting. Love it, and if you have to leave home you can forward calls to your mobile phone and not worry about internet connection. That's what I call portability.

I have had MagicJack since the beginning. In the beginning I did have a series of problems. I had difficulty finding customer support but with perseverance I got through and found that I had a Chinese unit and they replaced it. I had software issues after that but I got them resolved and have been using my 4 year old unit without a glitch. I have used it through XP, Vista and Windows 7. My wife and Daughter have chatted on it for hours without a problem. I do agree that a fast consistent internet connection is necessary. It works with cordless phones as well as wired phones. This comment is about the old magicjack. I have yet to try the newest version. As long as it isn't broke I am not going to fix it.

We live in Germany and love the fact we now have phone number that fits in all the US internet forms that presume everyone in the world has a 10 digit number. Also, it's handy people can call and leave a message and it sends it right to my email so I can listen anywhere and just call them back. You can choose a number anywhere in the States, so we chose one that's a local call for our kids. You must have REALLY fast internet to use it easily as a phone and since we don't, we mainly use it as a message machine. It's handy for traveling, too, since you just need your laptop and a headset and never have to worry about using a phone card (everywhere we go has faster internet than our house!).

DON'T FORGET IF YOU LOSE POWER YOU HAVE NO PHONE SERVICE - NONE!!!!!

I live in the Sierra and like any other mountain range we get snow. Snow brings down trees and wires. Sometimes it can take from DAYS to WEEKS (well, 12 days is almost 2 weeks) to get service up and running. A LOT of New Comers don't know that power can go out, but you still have phone, IF you have a land-line. Cells fail under heavy use (read: big storms) and a computer hooked to a dead wall plug doesn't do you a lot of good. So - as a former firefighter/paramedic PLEASE think twice before you get MOM or GRANDMA a MJ type device! - Kids and older people need emergency services far more often than those in between!! - when you do your calculus, PLEASE remember 'little kids' or older folks around the house. Just when the power goes out is when you seem to need EMS the most!

Well, it's nice to hear that it works for some people, but I had a friend who used it and I could barely hear or understand her what she was saying. She had so many problems with it that she finally got away from MJ. So, it isn't for everyone.

Biggest problem for me is the fact it is *NOT* a land-line. I live on the coast in a hurricane zone. When electric power goes out, and it always does in a hurricane, you want a land-line. Cell phones will be out almost always. DSL-based phones like Vonage will be out. You old, standard, plug-into-just-the-phone-jack phone will work, as long as the telecom grid is up and running. MajicJack is a VOIP toy. Also, here's the clincher. You can use Skype between two computers, video, audio, and typing, for free. Not $40 for the device, plus a fee. No fees. No nothing. Because MajicJack requires an internet connection, you're not 'dumping' your phone service for it. You're paying a fee to whoever your ISP is, plus MajicJack. Sometimes an ISP can cost as much as a phone service, and sometimes more. If you don't believe me, use an internet search for MajicJack complaints. There are many.

Great site Bob.
Just wanted to add a few comments about MJ, and some of the initial problems I had. If you intend to use existing home wiring, make sure you have discontinued your landline service. The incoming ring signal can fry the unit. I physically disconnected the 4 wires at the input to my home as an added precaution.

Next, if you are going that route, MJ works best with cordless phones because of the low Ringer Equivalency Number (REN)which affects whether or not the phone rings, and incoming/outgoing volume. I had 1 older corded phone in my BR that I'd forgotten about. Disconnecting that solved my problems. I now have 5 cordless phones connected to MJ using existing wiring and all ring with very nice voice quality on both ends.

The only apparent limitation to MJ is if you are making a call outside of the area code that you choose, you will typically get disconnected after 90 minutes. You can still call back though. Minor problem. And for what they charge, I can definitely live with it.

Thanks again and God bless!
Steve
