I've used Magic Jack while I was in the Philippines. It worked great as long as I had a good internet connection. The sound quality was as good as here in the US. Since it was registered with a US phone Nbr the call from the Philippines to the US was free. I know others who use it also from the Philippines.

I have had MJ for 2 years. The first year was great and I am will be using it for a few more. The last 9 months I have been having problems with some phone numbers, like my Dr.,hair cutter, daughter, and sons plus a lot more.MJ will ring twice then get a busy signal everytime I dial the #.But I can always get thru to a cell phone.I have complained to MJ and they said that the phone company won't let my calls thru. All I can say is thanks to MJ for cutting my phone bill out and thanks to cell phones.

I used Magic Jack for two years in USA and in El Salvador, and it simply works fine for hours and hours, and If there are some issues when I was downloading large files, that's nothing compared with the money that it saved for me.
Simply the best option in IP phone, the former three years I paid $25 each month with another IP company, so now with $20 each year i feel just OK.

I will be renewing Magicjack for a 4th year. It is an excellent device that is the best value available. Contrary to what is stated in the article you do not have to pay extra for call forwarding, call ID, or voice mail to email services. This device is perfect for anyone outside the US that has broadband Internet and wants to send and receive "free" calls to the US. Call quality is generally good to excellent. The only negatives are the website. It is horrible and trying to renew your subscription it "defaults" to a page with a 5 year sign up, you have to dig around to find a single year renewal.
Another "feature" to keep in mind is that you will be disconnected at 2 hours if you are in a call that long. You cannot then reconnect to that same number for some time after. For $20/year this is a fantastic service!

I purchased MJ last November after the ad appeared on tv. After setting the jack up, and purchasing a no. for Canada and paying $10 for international calls I found that the phone no.that I had was classed as long distance for all local incoming calls which range from 51c to 59c depending on the time of day that the call was made. I phoned my MJ no. from my Bell landline and it cost me $1.08c for 2 mins. seems to me that if you want to lose your friends and relatives this would be the best way to go about it. I suppose if everyone was using MJ then it would be feasible to get rid of your landline but when all local incoming calls are being charged to the callers not on MJ well that could be very expensive, needless to say MJ is now back in Florida. It was free after all it only cost me $30. to try $4.00 for fast shipping $10.00 for the phone no. and $16.00 for the return shipping with a tracking no.as you have to get it back to them by the date that they give you or else your credit card will be billed for the year.

For folks using satellite internet servers, such as hughes.net and wildblue.net, be advised that they do not provide VOIP service. This includes Vonage and MagicJack. Quality of calls is very poor to impossible using these ISPs and these ISPs limit usage measured in megs which will get eaten-up quickly if you try to use VOIP. I do not know of any satellite providers that are compatible with VOIP.

Magic Jack works wonderfully IF you have a sufficiently high internet speed. I am outside the US in a country where I cannot get a consistently high speed, so at times the connection is choppy or dropped.
The biggest negative is with customer service. I seem to have inherited a Magic Jack that once belonged to another person and was not properly wiped; I am therefore registered as her, and cannot get the Magic Jack account registered as me without returning the device to where I purchased it (and since I am not in the US, that is not possible). Not a huge problem, just an annoying thing I think they could fix but don't.
I also hate how every time I plug the MJ in it installs a shortcut on my desktop (which I promptly delete), AND I find it irksome that half of the display that runs while you are on the phone is an everchanging ad, which takes up the precious little bandwidth I have, and at times has caused the calls to drop.
Having said all that, I am still glad to own one.

We have two MagicJacks in our home office and love it. The first MJ replaced a previous VoIP service as our primary home phone; the second MJ is for my business (http://www.ksmusselman.com) so people calling in would know for a fact they were getting my business and not my husband's or a residence.

We've had no more problems with either of our MJ than we did with the previous VoIP service we'd been using!

How can I cancel the magic jack because I don't use it, and I don't want it?

EDITOR'S NOTE: Wouldn't it make sense to start by contacting Magic Jack customer service? (Hint: It's not me.)

I have been using Nettalk Duo for about a month now with good results. Just plug directly into a router with broadband service(DSL in my case). Connect a phone line to the Duo and all calls are free, except for international calls. $30 a year.

I test Magic Jack for 6 months and it was a disaster. It interfered with numerous programs on my PC (god only knows what interrupts it was fooling with), and unless you have DSL or Cable access, call quality is horrible. I'm using Skype now and am much happier.

I just want to make sure I will not be billed any additional amounts since I did install Magic Jack and try to use it for about 30 minutes but it doesn't work well with my internet service.

EDITOR'S NOTE: You'll need to contact MJ customer support for any billing issues.

I have used Magic Jack for 2 years.
I have economy DLS and the MJ still works, you really don't have to have real high speed for it to work.
I LOVE magic jack and love the price of 19.95 a year.

We have used Magic Jack since it first reached
the market place. VERY Satisfied! And Saved nearly $2,200 that would have gone in to Verizon pocket!
We got it when we realized we didn't need hard wired phone that cost $60 per month vs $1.70 per mth with MAGIC JACK! Do The Math!
