Bob, Thank you for this article. You know, it really annoys me when I see the words, "expires today" or only good for today when I know that at midnight the same offer will still be there. It makes me think that the seller is pulling the wool over my eyes about something insignificant, so he/she will do it for the bigger things too. On paper, MagicJack seems like a good product, but the hype makes me feel like there is something wrong.

I have had my magicjack for three months after a buddy in Thailand called me from one and the quality was excellent. I have not had such good luck, 80%+ of all my calls are not clear, have clicking, humming, hangups or even the voice coming over the line staccato so I cannot understand a word, I have to hang up and try again, it is really frustrating and I feel I am dealing with a phone service from 30 years ago.
I have IM'd with them which was good customer service a little slow but good, and got a patch to upgrade. It still bites. But I try and use it to save a buck, I call Canada with it all the time and I find the quality is worse during the day when it is at prime time. I would just love it if the quality was clear all the time. Just a note that figure 80%+ of all my calls being affected is correct. Still I will keep on using it and for $20 a year I can only pray it will get better.

I have tried the Magic jack. The clarity is fine.
I can't tell nor can those I call tell that it is not a regular landline. My one problem is this:
I could get a phone number in my area code; however I could NOT get any local prefix; therefore I could call anyone without being charged, but anyone calling me outside of the local prefix assigned to me has to pay a local long distance charge. That is my biggest disappointment.

I tried for the 30 day free trial offer ending 2/26, billed on the 31st day if not returned, put in card information and said I was billed today-- not 31 days from ordering like the sponsor site said.
What a bummer.

I just hooked my magic jack up this week, and it drops WAY too many calls. Pretty much every other call is dropped. The customer service agent said that it's because I'm using a cordless phone instead of a corded phone, but it's still very frustrating. The sound quality is clear though; just drops too many calls.

Everytime I turn on my computer I have to wait until magic jack gets thru advertisins itself and telling me to tell my friends about Magic Jack. I wish there was someway to get rid of the add and only start magic jack when I need it. It interupts my work all the time. Any help will be appreciated. JP

Like most people i was sold on this Magicjack from the TV and Magazine adds, I Decided to give it a try. It was easy to order,i received it in about 10 days. I unpacked and plugged it in and Down goes my Computer! I restarted and plugged it in to figure why it crashed, and once again down it went! This time I could SMELL SOMETHING BURNING! Magicjack Burnt the USB HUB out and my power supply ! I AM OUT OVER $500 In Repairs and cost of 2 Majicjacks ! Magicjacks Repps were NO HELP AT ALL! I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY CAN GET BY WITH SUCH A SCAM ON TV AND MAJOR MAGAZINES

ANYONE Wanting to try this Magicjack Should GOOGLE And Look At ALL THE COMPLAINTS FIRST , I Wish I DID.

First,I have to reboot everyday for magicjack to work....second,way too many dropped calls most of the time its from cell phones....voice sounds very good most of the time though. I would like to say this make sure you don't have any virus on your computer which for some reason really can mess-up magicjack phone calls. When I first got magicjack it worked great but as time goes by its not working that well, don't know why???

Tried Magic Jack. Took a long time to install. Had to reduce firewall security for it to work. Virus slipped in and took out my machine. Had to buy a new one. (had the old one for 4 years - no viruses) Tried an international call - never got through. Rate was 11 cents higher than advertised. Tried again, right away, with Vonage -got through - no problem. Never did get Magic Jack to connect. Replaced my machine and did not install Magic Jack. Sent an email to one of their emails that I wanted to return it. Never heard back. Tried to go through their chat line -never got through. They are hiding something. There is no customer service. As far as I am concerned, it is a scam and there are lots of others, who agree.

I have used the Magic Jack on two different computers. It is now hooked to a PC using a wireless connection and it doesn't seem to affect it at all. It does not run on Windows 7 right now, so its on an XP machine. It has worked great almost every time. I have had one or two scratchy calls, but I can't say it wasn't the cell phone I called. All the rest of the calls sound as good as my cell phone or better. I haven't had a complaint yet from anyone calling in. I have not had to restart a pc to get it to work. I rarely ever restart the pc I use daily. The software starts up quickly and just plain works. I intend to try hooking it up to my printer/scanner/fax to see how the fax works. I have read conflicting reports on this. I have been using this for over 6 months and I think its the best purchase I have ever made from TV. EXCELLENT!!!

We had a fire in our house and ever thing burned down, including my magic jack. Can you replace the phone?

EDITOR'S NOTE: I can't, but if you contact MagicJack customer service, they might be able to help.

My husband and I have been talking about getting the MagicJack. One day at work I looked it up and ordered it. It has now been almost a month and we love our Magic Jack. Maybe once a week we will have to restart our computer but other than that. It is Awesome!!!

I had a heck of a time getting MagicJack to connect to my XP laptop after the laptop went in for repair. This occured while I was on an extended trip and the cause as best I could determine was slow internet connection. By fiddling with magicjack I could connect with a slow internet connection but calls would cut in and out. There is no telephone support for magicjack but they do have web based support and they do answer any question asked. English is not suppports first language so be very succinct when you ask a question. I was told by support that I needed to change my DNS settings to 67-90-152-122
67-107-71-186 which I did and which corrected my connection problems for slow internet connections. On a normal high speed connection you don't need to change DNS settings.
I also was unable to use my laptop for anything except magicjack while I was making a phone call or I would lose connection. That was a resource thing I think.
It sounds as though I don't like magicjack and that would be false. Once I was able to get a good high speed connection it worked wonderfully. It was clear and I could talk for hours without interuption. I am a supporter but I agree with all of those who dislike the cheesy advertisements. Oh yes, and it works world wide. A nice touch when you are out of the country.

I am a Magic Jack user and love it. The only question I have and am still looking for the answer for is that I ahve an issue with the sound quality. On one part, if I just use a headset on the computer, the sound quality is more clear than a cell phone. But I am trying to get the same quality as if using a regular phone. (i.e. analog based) cause other than the scratches in the background th-th-e vo-oo-ice s-o-und-nd-s li-ke thi-ss, and it gets hard to hear. Is there any helpfull hints on VoIP phones without the trouble of yet getting 'another line' in order to use, but yet just using the (VoIP) phone instead? Other than Googling aroud it hasn't gotten me far. Thanks
