Apple has decided that the "death grip" problem with the iPhone 4 losing reception is a software issue, despite the fact that it is easily demonstrated to be a hardware problem. Not happy? Return your iPhone within 30 days of purchase for a full refund, or shell out another $30 for a bumper case.
Microsoft has developed a system called Instaload that lets you insert batteries without worrying about the "+" or "-" indicators. Sounds like a positive development to me.
The National Federation of the Blind and Virginia Tech are working on a prototype that will allow a blind driver to maneuver a car. The "nonvisual interfaces" built into a Ford Escape uses sensors to transmit information so that the car can avoid obstacles.
A recent study from Jakob Nielsen finds that those using ebook devices read slower than those reading print. The iPad had a 6.2% lower speed, while the Kindle measured 10.7% slower.
Firefox 4 beta is now available for download. Mozilla's latest browser has a redesigned user interface, improved HTML5 and add-on support, and hardware accelerated HD video playback.
Best Buy employee Brian Maupin made an iPhone vs. HTC Evo video last week. (Warning, funny but contains foul language.) The company was disturbed enough to suspend him and considered firing the guy but, according to their blog, are looking forward to having him come back to work.
You knew it was coming. Twitter has launched Earlybird Exclusive Offers, a series of "hot" deals, events and sneak peeks from advertisers. If you would like to get in on the action, follow @earlybird.
Borders launched its eBook Store this week, with free apps for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch (Blackberry and Android apps to arrive soon.) You can download the free reader for access to over a million titles.
Want to be part of a cinematic time capsule on YouTube? On July 24 (the date chosen for the numbers 24/7,) shoot some video and submit it to Kevin Macdonald and Ridley Scott, who will select clips and turn them into "Life in a Day." The documentary will premiere at next year's Sundance and be shown free on YouTube.
The White House announced that $795 million will be awarded in loans and grants to expand broadband networks. The funding will expand public computer centers and create about 5,000 new jobs. On the downside, it will also add $795 million to the national debt.
